The HM011 is a self powered LCD hour meter, tachometer and maintenance meter. An internal lithium battery furnishes the power for the monitor. A wire around the spark plug wire of the engine provides both a tachometer signal an indicator that the engine is running. The maintenance meter is used to alert maintenance personnel that a time interval has expired and maintenance shuold be performed on the engine.

Just a word of caution for buyers looking for an hour meter that has a replaceable battery: this one may not be the ticket, even if it's advertised as having a replaceable battery.
The back cover doesn't appear designed to be removed, and the accompanying instructions make no mention of replacing the battery. I was advised by the seller to wedge the cover off, which I did, but while doing so my leverage slipped and I damaged the circuit board inside. My mistake, so I ate the cost (of course).
The problem with so many of these meters is that, sure, they last for "35,000 hours," but that's not even four years. For many generator owners, for example, the meter will stop working long before the generator. It'd be nice to have a small, electronic hour meter that will last as long as the generator. Want the bad news? You're simply not going to find one; go mechanical.
Even with the back cover off, it was plain to see that the battery isn't meant to be replaced. It's held in place by a clip, but it has "goo" all over it, just to make sure it stays there. A gal could carve that stuff off of there, but it's pretty tight quarters and, well, she too may end up with a damaged circuit board.
I never got the meter installed, so I can't testify to its workability. Other reviews seem positive, so I gave it three stars rather than fewer.

I bought two of these for my twin-engine boat. The hour meter portion works fine, but the tachometer is unreliable and continually jumps between accurate and random readings. I've re-connected them multiple times, carefully following the instructions, and they just don't work right. But again, it's a good hour meter that is easy to read.
